Weapon Range

Here, we explain the basic knowledge of combat and weapons necessary for survival in battles. In the combat system of this game, there is a distinction between the vanguard (front line) and the rearguard (back line) in the party formation. For a four-member party, the first two members are positioned in the vanguard, and the last two are in the rearguard. The same applies to enemies.

Weapons in the game are classified according to their attack range, falling into three primary categories: close combat weapons, mid-range weapons, and long-range weapons.

Close combat weapons, such as one-handed swords, daggers, and maces, require the user to be in the vanguard (front line) to attack. These weapons only allow attacks on the enemy’s front line. Due to their one-handed nature, it’s possible to equip a shield in the other hand, although certain classes may not be able to use shields or may only use lighter shields.

Mid-range weapons include spears, quarterstaffs, and two-handed swords like claymores, which are characterized by their long length. Their attack range is wider than that of combat weapons, allowing vanguard-equipped characters to attack not only the enemy’s vanguard but also their rearguard. Additionally, they can be used from the rearguard to attack the enemy’s vanguard.

Long-range weapons, such as slings, bows, and shurikens, are thrown or launched. They have the widest attack range, allowing attacks on all enemies from any position within the party.

Equipping rearguard members with mid-range or long-range weapons allows them to participate in attacks. The quarterstaff is a mid-range weapon that can be used by clerics and magicians. Similarly, the sling is a long-range weapon usable by magicians with less physical strength.

Sling is a long-range weapon that can be used by mages.

The relationship between direct attacks and attack ranges applies not only to your party but also to enemies. Goblins, who wield short swords, will engage in close combat and attack your vanguard. On the other hand, large monsters like rock giants may leap over your vanguard to attack the rearguard. Creatures such as dwarves with hidden blow darts can perform long-range attacks from the rearguard position.

Understanding the differences in weapon attack ranges and enemy attack patterns can significantly increase your party’s survival rate in the early stages of the game.
